WOLFVILLE SCHOOL ACTIVITY PARK

Re-imagining the playground at Wolfville School

A community park for all
Built by you!

Our goal is to transform the under-equipped playground space at Wolfville School into a vibrant community activity park, with modern play equipment, sports facilities, and landscaping that will provide fitness and fun for all Wolfville School students while also serving the broader community.

This is a parent-led initiative, and the majority of funding must come from local organizations, business, and individuals. The government and the Regional Centre for Education (school board) provide no funding for playground construction and renovation.

SPRING 2019 UPDATE

Fundraising for the new Wolfville School Activity Park has been in full swing! In the fall of last year, we won $10,000 from the Aviva Community Fund, thanks to the support of community members and others who voted for us!

In March 2019, 100 Women Who Care Annapolis Valley selected Wolfville School Activity Park as its charity of choice, with each member donating $100 — a big thank you to all of them!

In addition, we held a raffle for a chance to win a $5,000 travel voucher with Karla Shaffer, Certified Travel Consultant with TPI. The drawing was held on April 1st, and altogether the raffle raised $6,400 for the playground. Thank you to all who bought tickets!

With this and other funds we have raised, we are planning some big changes this summer! Our plans include installing a new large climbing structure with various components, plus fitness equipment for kids and adults. We also plan to clean up the SW corner, next to the new soccer court, to keep mud and debris from falling onto the court.

After that, we will be making plans to replace the current aging play structure with a new multi-activity structure and large spinner, plus double the number of swings! To reach this ultimate goal, we will be continuing our fundraising efforts in the coming months. The more funds we raise, the more we will be able to do! Please click here for information on making a donation. Thank you!

Join the Playground Team!

We are currently looking for a couple of new members to join the Playground Improvement Committee. Our biggest task this year will be fundraising, so we are looking particularly for parents and school staff who can help organize some fundraising events over the course of year. It is not a big commitment, but it will make an enormous difference for the school and for Wolfville in general.

If you are interested in helping, please contact the committee at wolfvilleschoolactivitypark@gmail.com.

OUR VISION

SPORT

In 2017, we replaced the dirt field with a hard-surface futsal soccer court that is usable throughout most of the year for soccer and other sports and games.

The court is the first of its kind in Nova Scotia, and is used by students and community on a near daily basis!

PLAY

The current, aging play structure will be replaced with modern equipment that provides a range of physical development activities for both younger and older children.

Plans include a rope climbing structure, large spinner, double the current number of swings and wheelchair accessible equipment and games with natural wood fibre surfaces under play structures.

NATURE

Natural play and fitness structures will promote fitness and creative play, as well as provide areas for socializing and outdoor class activities.

Together with the landscape design, they will make the space more attractive and draw both community members and visitors.

SOMETHING FOR EVERYONE

More than just a playground —
the Wolfville School Activity Park will be a true community resource for sport, fitness, and fun!
